[recensione su The black and White Magazine, CANADA – maggio 2007]

Innovation is a wonderful thing! La Monte's Here Comes The Skinny Roller is an extremely innovative 13-song record that never leaves a rusty moment. This Italian 3-piece is self described as 'ghettotech/shoegaze/christian rap(!)', and while their description doesn't completely miss the mark, it would be fair to call La Monte a very excellent electro-rock band. With ample amounts of synths, rhodes, and uber programming, Here Comes The Skinny Roller could be a trend-setting record that takes its cues from albums like Kid A/Amnesiac and MuteMath. It's hard to know whether to classify this as an electronic rock band or a rock band dabbling in electronica, but either way the outcome is the same. La Monte has astonishing grooves, hooks, vox, and structures. Guitars are droning and atmospheric, and the bass is usually robust. While this band is aggressively artful, the fun is never lost. If electro-pop is your thing, then so is La Monte. Here Comes...is a pure joy to blast. Thank God for innovative artists!
